Aloha AES Ohana,

 

We want to extend a huge MAHALO to everyone who volunteered and attended our Trunk or Treat event last Friday! Your support made it a truly spooktacular night for our keiki.

Important Reminders:

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Please remember that school will end at 1 PM daily this week.

  • FOA Craft Fair: Join us this Saturday, November 2nd for a fun-filled day! We're still looking for volunteers to help out. Please sign up using the registration QR code below.

  • After School Clubs: Don't forget to sign up for after-school clubs online tomorrow, October 28th. The QR code is also below

Principal's Message

 

Aloha AES Ohana,

 

We're off to a fantastic start to the second quarter! To ensure all our students receive the support they need, we'll soon be launching reading intervention groups in the coming weeks. These groups will be led by your classroom teachers and reading interventionists to help your child strengthen their foundational reading skills and reading comprehension skills. Mahalo for your kokua.

 

Friendly reminders: 

  • Math Night Invitation forms were sent home on Friday. As space and supplies are limited, we urge you to return your forms as soon as possible to secure your spot. Confirmation slips will be sent to families at the end of the week upon receipt of the forms. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Flu Shot Clinic forms were also sent home on Friday. Please fill out these forms if you want your child to receive a flu shot at our school. The deadline is 10/25.

  • Parent-teacher conferences are coming up next week! From October 28th to November 1st, school will end at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

We're still looking for volunteers to make our Trunk or Treat a memorable event.

We hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating break with friends and family! We welcome you to another fun and exciting fall session of Living, Loving, and Learning.

 

As we begin the second quarter, we encourage you to set high goals for yourself and to approach your studies with excitement and dedication. Remember, your teachers are here to support your academic growth and development.

 

Just a few reminders:

  • This Saturday, 10/19, we are having our first school community event of the year with Sustainable Coastlines of Hawaii. It will be from 3 pm to 8 pm at our school campus. Please see below for more information.

  • Parent-teacher conferences will be held at the end of the month (from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1). Be sure to connect with your teacher on a PTC date and time. During our conference week, we will end school at 1 p.m.

  • Lastly, We can't wait to see you at our fantastic Trunk or Treat event sponsored by the FOA on Friday, 10/25 from 5:30 pm. It's going to be a spooktacular evening! See you there!

Aloha AES Families,

Congratulations! Thanks to your overwhelming support in completing the Free and Reduced Lunch applications, we have qualified for additional Title I funding for next school year 2025-26.

We received confirmation from the state offices just last week that we were able to secure this funding by the narrowest of margins. Your dedication and hard work in completing these applications have made a significant difference in our ability to provide additional resources and support to our students.

Please note that we will be holding a professional development day for faculty and staff on Friday, 10/4/24. There will be no school for students on Friday.

We're thrilled to share some fantastic news about our students' recent academic achievements! Our school has surpassed expectations on the state assessments, with outstanding scores in Math, Reading, and Science.

SY 23-24:

  • Math: 79% of our students met or exceeded standards. (Our school ranked 6th in the State of Hawaii!)

  • Reading: 68% of our students met or exceeded standards.

  • Science: 66% of our students met or exceeded standards.

These impressive results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and staff. We're incredibly proud of their accomplishments!

We're grateful for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we're creating a positive and nurturing learning environment where students can thrive.

Aloha Parents and Guardians,

Picture Taking Day is today, Monday, 9/16. Please ensure your child comes to school in their best attire for the photo shoot. All students will have their pictures taken during the school day.

Additionally, we kindly ask that you return your child's Federal Survey card to your teacher as soon as possible. This information is vital for our school's federal reporting and planning.

 

Finally, we highly encourage you to apply for the free and reduced-price lunch program by 9/17. By applying, you are not only helping your child but also supporting our school. Applying for free or reduced-price lunch helps our school qualify for Title I federal funding, which provides additional resources to support all of our students' academic success.

We wanted to express our sincere gratitude for your understanding as we held our professional development training on August 26th. Your support allows us to continue enhancing our teaching practices for the benefit of all our students.

 

Last week, our Kaimuki Complex schools came together to learn about Teacher Clarity. This powerful approach will equip our teachers to:

  • Clearly Communicating Learning Intentions: Students will always know what they are learning and why it's important.

  • Providing Success Criteria: Students will understand when they have achieved the learning intention (objective).

  • Creating a Positive and Supportive Classroom Environment: Students will feel confident and motivated to learn.

 

Ali'iolani is dedicated to implementing Teacher Clarity to provide our students with the best possible learning experience. We believe this approach will empower our students to take ownership of their learning and reach their full potential.

We are excited to share that our school is committed to enhancing teacher clarity in the classroom to ensure student success. Teacher Clarity is a professional development initiative aimed at improving teacher communication and instruction, making learning more effective and engaging for all students.

On August 26th, our teachers will be participating in professional development sessions focused on Teacher Clarity. They will learn strategies to:

Aloha AES Ohana,

 

We’re off to an exciting start to the school year! Thank you for your continued support as we navigate these first few weeks together. Your partnership in helping your child adjust to their new classroom and routines is invaluable.
Starting tomorrow, we will begin wearing the different colors of the rainbow to help our keiki learn these essential colors. Please have your child join us for this fun school-wide activity.

 

Also, this Wednesday, we will have our open house from 1:15 to 3 p.m. Teachers will hold three repeat sessions to accommodate our families with multiple students in different grade levels. Parents/guardians only have to attend one session. Additionally, this Thursday is our Family Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. Please join us for some delicious popcorn and snacks.

Dear Aliʻiolani ʻOhana,

We're thrilled to welcome you back for another exciting school year! We hope your summer break was filled with joyful memories and time spent with loved ones.

This year holds exciting developments for our school community. We're sharpening our instructional practices to best support every keiki and fostering a strong sense of belonging for students, parents, and staff. Our new Hawaiian Studies program will deepen our connection to ʻOhana Way values like malama (care), hoʻihi (wisdom), and pono (righteousness).

Of course, we remain committed to providing a high-quality education for all our students through core subjects, STEM, Robotics, Career Exploration, and enriching after-school programs.

Welcome New Staff!
We extend a warm welcome to our new teachers and staff:

  • Michelle Nakamura: Our new Student Services Coordinator, Ms. Nakamura brings over 20 years of experience in both public and private schools.

  • Keilyn Ah Yat: Our new School Counselor, Mrs. Ah Yat, has 18 years of experience supporting students at the elementary level.

  • Jasmine Chin: Our new special education teacher, Mrs. Chin was a student teacher last year at Ali‘iolani and has fostered a sense of belonging with our students.
